About Peg Perego

Peg Perego is an Italian brand of baby equipment. They have been operating since 1949, with headquarters in Arcore, Italy.

What differentiates this company from competitors is the special care for customers and the advanced, supreme design of their products. Peg Perego products are considered luxurious for their high prices but also flawless construction and high-grade materials.

They have all types of car seats on their offer, but the most frequently bought are infant seats and travel systems.

  • Design-wise: 10/10
  • Installment: 10/10
  • Safety: 10/10

Design

Primo Viaggio is a classic infant car seat. It features only rear-facing mode, but it includes dual-stage removable newborn inserts that allow you to adjust the seat as your loving baby grows. The seat accommodates newborns from four to thirty-five pounds in weight.

Usually, infant car seats have a minimum weight limit of five pounds, and they cannot be used for newborns straight out of the hospital, but Primo Viaggio can. Also, this car seat can be used as a carrier, and it’s compatible with travel systems, so it converts into a stroller. It weighs 9.5 lbs, while the base weighs 7.4 lbs, which is excellent. Infant seats usually weigh between 20 pounds and 25 pounds.

Primo Viaggio has a bit more advanced design for an infant car seat since it has excellent weight capacity, dual cushions, and it’s compatible with travel systems.

Therefore, I’d rate the general design 10/10.

Installation and Adjustability

The Primo Viaggio base incorporates an innovative RightTight system that safely locks the base in place with a seat belt or the UAS strap. The rounded bottom allows a better fit, while the level indicator ensures you find the perfect angle to set the seat up.

One remarkable property of this infant car seat is the infinite number of recline positions. With a simple turn of the knob, you can recline the seat and find the best position for your child.

What is more, Primo Viaggio 4/35 has adjustable side impact protection, which gives you six positions to choose from. No rethreading is needed to make the adjustments, and there are even elastic straps that keep the harness off your way.

Overall, the installation is pretty straightforward, very advanced, and secure, while adjustability is remarkable and undoubtedly deserves 10/10.

Here is an instructional video demonstration, which could make the installation process clearer and help you install the seat correctly.

Safety

Safety is not a matter of question when we talk about Peg Perego child restraint systems. Their rigorous testing procedures make sure the seats are safe as bunkers.

Primo Viaggio 4/35 infant car seat is NHTSA-certified for use in automobiles and aircraft. The head panel has been constructed in compliance with the EURO-NCAP test protocol, including the energy-absorbing Expanded Poly Styrene foam. The EPS foam is also placed throughout the shell to protect your child’s torso and head from impact forces.

Primo Viaggio also has the inevitable side impact protection, which plays a crucial role in side crashes. In addition to all this, Peg Perego included an anti-rebound bar to minimize the chances for injuries in the case of collision.

Even If I wanted to find something to complain about, I wouldn’t be able to do it. This car seat has a flawless safety system built to provide maximum protection in every possible scenario.

Safety gets 10/10.

Additional Information

peg perego primo viaggio 4-35 infant car seat review

Besides the advanced system, Peg Perego seats are unique for their elegant, high-quality design. The perfectly blended upholstery accurately portrays Italian fashion and long tailoring tradition. It’s important to mention that the seat is entirely made in Italy, from the bottom to the top, every piece. It also includes a large, removable hood that is UV-treated to protect your baby from the sun and elements.

As I already mentioned, you can use this car seat with Peg Perego strollers, and for this purpose, exclusively, it includes a short and compact handle that enables easy transfer.

Also, the base and the seat, and the handlebar have color-coded belt paths for easy installation.

Disadvantages

Yes, the seat is incredibly well-built, but is there something you should worry about?

In theory, no, every little detail seems well built, safe, and tested. However, it is a shame that this infant seat isn’t compatible with all Peg Perego travel systems. It’s not suitable for Skate and Pliko Mini.

Also, there have been complaints about the hood deteriorating after a while and leaving residues behind. Besides these complaints, the customers are satisfied with its performance.

Peg Perego Primo Viaggio vs Primo Viaggio Lounge

peg perego primo viaggio 4-35 reviews

Primo Viaggio and Primo Viaggio Lounge are almost identical infant car seats from peg Perego. The only difference is that the Lounge version allows more leg space for your baby.

Namely, besides the anti-rebound bar, this car seat includes a 10-position load leg to protect your child in the case of an accident additionally. The backrest reclines while the leg rest extends, letting your baby lie down comfortably when you’re using the car seat as a stroller.

Besides this, the only difference is the kinetic pods that the lounge version includes. It moves the forces away from your child, protecting him/her in crashes.

The Recap

All in all, Peg Perego Primo Viaggio is an insanely well-designed infant car seat. It includes two-stage cushions for a better fit, advanced technology for easy installment, countless safety features, and even a fashionable design.
