A Quick Overview
Before I start comparing these jogging strollers, let's first take a quick overview and see what they offer.
The Chicco Tre jogging stroller comes with the desirable removable seat design every parent will love! If you already own a Chicco KeyFit car seat, here is where you take advantage of the functionality.
It weighs a pound less than the Chicco Activ3 jogging stroller, but the weight difference is not that noticeable, especially with the car seat.
What's most impressive about this jogging stroller is that it features a Flex core suspension system that other jogging strollers lack! With the system, you can easily switch your ride modes depending on the terrain you are jogging on.
The Chicco Activ3 jogging stroller features large pneumatic tires, a one-hand parking brake, compact size, and an aluminum frame design. Like its competitor, the stroller is designed for smooth rides on all-terrain, and it's compatible with the Chicco KeyFit car seat.
The difference between these two strollers is in a few details. For example, the Chicco Activ3 stroller includes an extendable peek-a-boo window canopy and weighs less than the Chicco Tre.
1. Travel system functionality: Chicco Tre vs Activ3
As you can notice from the overview section, I mentioned that both jogging strollers are compatible with the Chicco KeyFit infant car seats.
The strollers can support 50 pounds of child weight with the Chicco KeyFit infant car seats. However, the main issue is that you won't be able to use the stroller with any other brand of car seats.
This limits you combining the stroller only with a particular line, and if you already don't own the Chicco KeyFit car seat, you have to be willing to pay extra.
The seat insert on the Chicco Tre stroller is super easy to remove when you want to connect it with the infant car seat! The removable seat lets the infant car seat snap right into the frame carrier.
This option will be available for the first six months!
Note that Chicco Activ3 does offer a removable arm bar.
All in all, both of the Chicco jogging strollers offer the great benefit of creating your very own travel system! Although it does require extra purchases, loyal Chicco customers will always tell you the purchase is worth it!
2. Which one has better comfort?
When it comes to stroller purchases, you will have to look out for the child's comfort and yours as well. So let's see which stroller offers better comfort for the child and the parent!
Starting with the Chicco Tre stroller, this one offers an extendable canopy with a flippable window. You will appreciate the canopy the most during those hot summer days!
In contrast, the Chicco Activ3 includes a UPF-rated canopy with a peek-a-boo window! But, again, this is something the Tre Chicco stroller lacks, so it's a big plus!
You can always peek into the window and see what your little one is up to.
However, I have to give a plus point to the Chicco Tre since the fabric is waterproof. Since the entire stroller is water-repellent, you don't have to worry about damage if caught in the rain off-road!
The sporty fabrics are wipeable, so whenever your kiddo makes a mess in the seat, you can easily clean it away!
3. Adjustment features
Now, as for the parent comfort, there is the height-adjustable handlebar! Again, with the Chicco Tre stroller, you can easily maneuver the adjustable handlebar depending on the ride you are looking for!
This travel system is accustomed to running and walking, so adjusting the handle will offer you the perfect experience for any type of ride! However, the Tre stroller only offers two lever positions.
The Activ3 stroller also allows for a smoother ride thanks to the four positions adjustable handlebar. In addition, the handlebar can go up 43 cm, allowing you to enjoy a good jog as one should!
I bet that all taller parents will love this feature in these all-terrain stroller models! So, in this case, I will declare Activ3 a winner since it allows more adjustability for parents and kids!
4. Snack & parent tray
We have to talk about the elephant in the room! Both Chicco strollers lack the snack for the kid. Considering Chicco is one of the most recognizable baby gear brands, a simple addition of a child tray would have been a huge step up!
However, I have to give it the benefit of the doubt, considering these two strollers are designed for active parents. There is a bumper bar your kiddo can grab onto.
With the Chicco Activ3, you can use the exclusive Control Console and the cup holders in the parent tray. The parent console allows you to store your water bottle each time you go for a jog.
The Chicco Tre stroller also offers a similar console from which you can reach the deceleration hand brake. The deceleration brake also doubles as a fixed brake for parking, allowing you to control a firm ride at all times!
Most parents would benefit from a snack tray, but again I repeat, this is not something Chicco practices in their jogging strollers.
5. Storage basket
No matter if you are going for a quick jog or a neighborhood walk, bringing baby essentials is a must! But, even if you get a diaper bag, you will need room to squeeze it in!
With the Chicco Activ3, you will get an extra-large storage basket underneath the main seat! What I like the most about it, besides the space, is that it's still easy to access it even when the seat is fully reclined.
The basket is accessible from both the front and the back. As far as the Chicco Tre goes, the storage bin is of a similar design. However, it's slightly smaller.
No matter which stroller you pick, you won't be disappointed by the storage basket as it holds the majority of baby necessities.
6. Wheels & manouverance
This is the part you have all been waiting for! Let's see how these strollers work for light jogs and daily walks.
To begin with, the Chicco Activ3 jogging stroller uses the same size wheels in the front and the back. With a Tre stroller, you will get 16-inch wheel swivels on the back and a 12-inch swivel front wheel set.
The Chicco Activ3 jogging stroller includes a flex core suspension system, making it perfect for light exercise. In addition, active parents enjoy the smaller diameter of the swivel wheel, which delivers a smooth ride.
The wheels on the Activ3 stroller are rubber, which means you will never have to inflate them or worry about deflated tires! In contrast, the Chicco Tre stroller offers pneumatic tires that deliver a firm ride on rough terrain.
With the Chicco Activ3, you can enjoy the adjustable suspension. However, over rougher terrain, this stroller may be a bit shaky.
In this case, the Chicco Tre travel system offers a better suspension, allowing you to keep the jogger in a straight line. However, it does not have adjustable tracking. This makes the stroller suitable for brisk walks but inadequate for serious runners!
So, which one is better?
I have to declare the Chicco Tre a winner here! The smaller wheel diameter in the front wheel and a swivel lock allow you to easily walk on any terrain and brake with one hand! In addition, it keeps the baby comfortable in the stroller, allowing you to accommodate the ride to the road.
However, it comes at a bigger price point and has air-filled tires that can be easily punctured.
7. Fold & store
The self-standing fold has got to be one of my favorite features of these strollers!
Let's start with the Chicco Tre stroller.
The quick-folding mechanism allows you to reach a compact fold in under a few seconds and in three different ways! You can fold it in a self-standing fold for when you are taking public transport, a flat fold for the trunk, and a compact fold for maximum space-saving!
The Chicco Activ3 does follow a similar folding mechanism, but it does not offer this kind of folding benefits. Instead, it includes a standard flat fold you can achieve by twisting the handle with one hand.
Thankfully, the Activ3's front wheel collapses fully, so you can place the stroller in tight locations.
How do you fold a Chicco Tre jogging stroller?
The Chicco Tre jogging stroller includes a three-way fold.
For starters, there is the lie-flat fold, a self-standing fold, and a compact fold for space-saving.
The Chicco Tre jogging stroller includes a one-hand quick folding mechanism. In under a few seconds, you can fold the stroller and have it ready for storage!
How do you put a carseat in a Chicco Activ3 stroller?
One of the best things about the Chicco Activ3 stroller is that it is compatible with a Chicco KeyFit infant car seat. So all you would have to do is remove the main seat on the stroller, and the infant car seat snaps right into its position.
You won't need a separate adapter as Chicco offers a perfect fit for their KeyFit car seats.
Chicco Activ3 vs Tre: Which is more travel-friendly?
The Chicco Activ3 and Tre are made from lightweight aluminum elliptical tubing that allows them to be travel-friendly. The aluminum frame does not weigh much, but once you add the baby weight, both strollers can be heavier.
The travel system on both models is extraordinary, as they are compatible with Chicco KeyFit car seats. They snap right into the frame and create a unique travel system for an active parent!
No matter where you are traveling, you can expect a soft ride from both. However, the Chicco Tre offers a better folding mechanism and stable wheels for all terrains.
Chicco Activ3 vs Tre: Which one last longer?
The average lifespan for Chicco Tre and Activ3 strollers is between 3-5 years. However, unlike car seats, strollers do not have an expiration date.
It will all come down to maintenance and how often you have used the stroller. Both Chicco Activ3 and Tre are made to last, so you do not need to worry about the longevity of each stroller.
Chicco Activ3 vs Tre: Which is easier to install?
The Chicco Activ3 is easier to install. The entire installation process takes around 20 minutes in total. All parts are easily assembled, and the Chicco Keyfit car seat snaps immediately into the frame.
After that, the stroller is ready for a soft ride and jogging around the neighborhood.
Final Words: Chicco Tre vs Activ3
Chicco Activ3 and Tre are relatively similar strollers. However, they make fantastic travel system buddies you can take everywhere thanks to the compact fold that other strollers do not offer.
If you wish to have maintenance-free wheels that you don't have to worry about, the Chicco Activ3 is a perfect choice! It's slightly lighter than the Tre, but the weight is not that noticeable.
Additional features such as a parent console and a spacious canopy are included in both models, so you can't make a wrong choice with either stroller!
The Tre model does offer a better folding mechanism, making it a favorite of mine!
