The Britax Grow With You ClickTight Booster Car Seat: Is This the Best Option for You?
1. Design technology
When speaking about tangible benefits, first, I noticed that the Britax Grow With You ClickTight harness-2-booster seat is really heavy.
The car seat weighs 25 pounds, which might be challenging for you to moderate it and move between the vehicles. Therefore, I'm not a fan of traveling with this seat. This is not the best option for traveling.
However, I am really fond of its design, as the car seat shows the best performance in car accidents.
Remember: the heavier the seat, the more stability it provides! I learned that when we had an accident. My daughter survived due to strength and bulky seat weight - she remained safe and sound.
But, still, its overall proportions are 21 x 19 x 25 inches, so it still might be too high and heavy for easy use. Still, it offers maximum protection, so I am a great supporter of that part.
In addition, the more advanced model - the Britax Grow With You ClickTight Plus harness-2-booster seat weighs even more!
It's one of the most popular combination car seats nowadays! The seat weight measures 26.5 pounds with overall dimensions of 21 x 23 x 25 inches, so it's even bulkier than the original Britax model.
Yet, the ClickTight Plus car seat also offers maximum protection, so it's definitely worth considering. But, it's also a more expensive model (more than $300.)
2. Will your kiddo & car fit the Britax Grow With You ClickTight harness-2-booster seat?
Don't worry - as I have said above, the ClickTight car seat offers two working modes:
- forward-facing harness position
- booster mode
Regarding the forward-facing harness mode, the harness-2-booster car seat supports children between 25 and 65 pounds, minimum two years old, between 34 and 49 inches tall.
The harness-2-booster car seat supports kids 40-120 pounds and 44-63 inches tall for the booster mode.
Therefore, the booster mode will fit three across, and it's similar but more advanced to its former model Britax Frontier ClickTight. So, the two Britax seats can stand next to each other, and you can combine them with other models in the vehicle seat to find the best positions for multiple children.
However, according to the Britax Grow With You ClickTight Plus review, the car seat offers slightly advanced support for your child.
Thus, you'll see, the forward-facing harness mode accommodates kids between 25 and 90 pounds, between 38 and 58 inches of height.
And, regarding the booster mode, the seat supports kiddos from 40 to 120 pounds, between 45 and 62 inches of maximum height.
This way, the car seat offers harness longer benefits, but it's still complicated to operate well and use it for three across, for instance. So, it will not fit more seats in the back seat, and it will be hard to maneuver it properly for more kids.
Yet again, the extended harnessed model will best fit your growing child, as the NHTSA and APP state that you should keep your child in a forward-facing harness mode until they're ready for a booster mode.
So, the seats will fit your big kid and large car. But, both seats might not be the best options for smaller cars, as they're higher and heavier, so you will have to measure your car interior and check whether the proportions match the seat's requirements.
3. What about the installation process?
As you will notice, the Grow With You ClickTight car seat offers both installation types - the vehicle seat belt and LATCH system. So, you can choose the better and quicker options and set your seat up effortlessly.
However, sometimes you may have some issues regarding the procedure, as the car seat manual and instruction manual might be confusing, so that you may make some installation errors.
It would be best to consult a trained Safety Technician or watch numerous videos on YouTube to help you & guide you through the process. But, follow my step-by-step guide, and you shouldn't have any issues.
a. LATCH system
You will have to find the lower anchors in the small compartment in the seat pan area, beneath the child's bottom part. They are hidden as you might find it easier to install the seat with the vehicle seat belt.
b. Setting the recline adjustment
The Grow With You ClickTight seat has two recline positions - recline position and upright position.
So, to find the best recline position, you can pull the handle on the front and moderate the seat for the desired position.
When in harness mode, you can use both recline positions, but you can use only the upright one in booster mode.
c. Harness installation with the vehicle seat belt
The car seat safety manual suggests using the seat belt as the primary installation type:
Find two small slots at the seat's bottom, and access them to find the release levers.
Squeeze them to open the ClickTight panel. You will find the belt path with the green labels, so you will pull the seat belt through the path and buckle it.
Remove the slack and close the ClickTight panel. Check whether the ClickTight panel is closed securely, and try moving the seat. If it's stable, you're ready to go!
Don't forget - when you install it with the seat belt, it should remain unlocked! But when you use only a lap belt, ensure you lock the vehicle seat belt, but this is not common.
d. LATCH system installation
To install it correctly with the lower anchors, extend the tether strap, lay it over the seat's back and connect it to the tether anchor.
Also, moderate the harness, unbuckle the chest clip and the crotch buckle, and, finally, adjust the harness.
Next, operate them on each armrests' side to make the harness straps out of the way.
Also, find two small slots towards the seat's bottom, see the release levers, and squeeze them to open the ClickTight panel. Remember that you should install it with the seat belts preferably!
Next, pull the lower anchor webbing through the belt path with green labels and connect the lower anchors on each seat's side to the mounted lower anchors in your vehicle.
Finally, remove the slack and close the ClickTight panel securely - an audible click should show if you did everything correctly.
e. Booster mode installation
With the ClickTight installation, you can remove the harness or store it on the seat to install it correctly. So, it would be best if you unbuckled it first.
Next, open the ClickTight panel and find two clips on the seat's back.
Unhook the cover and tug it forward with an EZ-buckle ad crotch buckle through the cover slot. Lay them along to meet the harness adjuster release level.
Next, move the cover back in the primary position, find the car seat shell, and attach the remaining clips. Close the panel. Use the harness strap and moderate the chest clip, chest pads, and buckle tongues towards the harness's top. Place them under the side wing covers after you have removed the slack.
To store the comfort pads properly in the seat, you have to unhook one of them and place it across the other side. Then, when you put pads together, slide them both under one side of the cover, and use the rest of the harness.
And if you use a LATCH process with the booster mode, secure it so that the seat does not become a projectile. Also, when your kid is over 40 pounds of the maximum weight limit, you cannot use LATCH.
Also, the top tether is necessary for LATCH installation to add more stability. So, don't forget to attach the top tether as well.
Regarding the ClickTight Plus installation, it also offers the ClickTight installation with seat belt design.
You can simply lift the cover and find the panel, pull the belt through the belt path, and close the panel and body.
Also, attach the top tether to its correct tether anchor. So, the second model offers the same features and ClickTight installation system as the regular Grow With You ClickTight seat.
The situation with the maximum weight limit, chest pads, and crotch buckle positions are easier to maneuver in the ClickTight Plus, as the instructions are pretty straightforward. Hence, the ClickTight system is effortless in most vehicles.
4. FAA approval and installation
The ClickTight seat is FAA approved, so that you can use it only in the harness mode.
In addition, the FAA forbids all boosters so that you can use them only with the 5-point harness on a plane. It would be best to use the ClickTight panel as a by-pass to install and use it correctly. So, it would be best to consult your manual for airplane installation before you set off.
The exact process is for the Plus model, as everything works simultaneously. The only difference might be the slightly advanced system, requiring less time and energy, but overall, it's the same. The Plus model follows the same FAA rules.
5. Maximum safety standards
I love the Grow With You ClickTight car seat since it offers supreme protection. The car seat includes a heavy-duty and solid steel frame with two layers of side-impact protection.
The side protection has an energy-absorbing shell with the same foam and SafeCell crumple zone to absorb energy as well. The design also helps absorb impacts, forces, and pressure to find a severe crash.
However, the car seat also benefits from the V-shaped tether and reliable structure that help reduce and slow the movement in the collision. It prevents your kid from forward movement. They also reinforce the seat frame and keep it stable and balanced.
Finally, the seat meets and exceeds all FMVSS and rigorous crash tests.
On the other hand, the Grow With You ClickTight Plus offers the best safety features and even slightly advanced ones. Therefore, you will also find the V-shaped tether and solid frame full of steel reinforcement to keep the seat balanced, stable, and fixed in the collision.
The design also benefits from the SafeCell crumple zone side-impact protection and energy-absorbing foam and shell to keep your little one intact and secure while on the road.
However, the CickTight Plus offers three layers of side-impact protection, and the third layer adds more safety to the head, neck, and torso as your child grows.
But the previous model also kept their upper bodies safe, even without this extra layer, but if you want more safety, the latter will be a slightly better option. And, it also meets and exceeds all FMVSS rules and other regulations.
And, of course, both car seats include the 5-point harness systems to add more safety for your child. The straps will cover crucial body parts and prevent slipping away or falling off the car seats.
6. Comfort benefits
The Grow With You ClickTight features two reclining positions, and you can find the indicators showing you the right angle.
Also, the seat benefits from more considerable legroom and extendable features that make your kiddo cozy and soft inside the seat for an extended period. And two cup holders serve as perfect storage for snacks and drinks to keep your little one occupied on the road.
The same goes for the Plus version - two cup holders for snacks and drinks, easily removable and easy to clean if your kid gets too messy. However, it offers multiple recline positions - two, and you can find the correct seating position for your child with the indicators and levers.
However, both car seats have a padded harness strap to prevent rubbing and scratching your children's necks so that they can enjoy comfy rides in the back. So, they will be even cozier and softer.
This is the hardest part.
The original ClickTight car seat is not easy to clean and maintain, as it doesn't have a machine-washable fabric. As a result, the materials are only suitable for hand-washing, and you can let the content dry. So, it might take your time and energy.
The ClickTight Plus seat has machine-washable content, as soft and quality as the original one, but still, it will be quicker to clean and maintain. So, it definitely saves your time and energy, and I love it due to this benefit.
What is the difference between Grow With You ClickTight and Grow With You ClickTight Plus?
The Plus version has three recline options instead of two; it's easier to clean and maintain and has three layers of side-impact protection, while the original version has two.
Is the Britax Grow With You machine washable?
Unfortunately, the content and materials are not machine-washable, only hand-washable.
How vast is the Britax Grow With You ClickTight?
Its width measures 19.5 inches, and its depth measures 21 inches.
Does Britax Grow With You ClickTight recline?
Yes, it does. It has two recline options, just like the last seat - the Plus version. So, you can choose between them to match your needs when you use the seat in two different modes.
Britax Grow With You ClickTight vs Chicco MyFit: Which one is better?
When comparing these two car seats, I would instead choose the ClickTight model.
First, the booster weight range is more prominent - up to 120 pounds, whereas the Chicco model has a limit of 100 pounds.
Second, the Britax accommodates 9 inches taller children than the Chicco model that doesn't suit such height measurements.
So, is the Britax Grow With You ClickTight car seat the best option for you? Or will you still choose the Britax Grow With You ClickTight Plus car seat?
If you ask me, I would undoubtedly go with the original model. Although the Plus version offers three layers of side-impact protection and is easier to clean and maintain, it's more expensive. But, overall, it has the same functions as the original seat. And, it cannot fit three across, which is supreme for the regular ClickTight model.
In the end, I hope I helped you with the review, so you can make informed decisions suiting your family's needs. And, please, let me know if you have further questions.
